Apple First iPhone Concept Made in 1983

Can we say that this is Apple’s first iPhone made in 1983 with a screen and a stylus. So it’s not iPhone that was released in 2007 which was first touchscreen device introduced by the company. This concept got to the surface after a report that Stanford University has massive Apple Historical Material Collection donated by Steve Jobs when he came back to Apple in 1997.

Apple Jonathan Ive Honoured Knighthood in United Kingdom

BBC Reports today that Jonathan Ive who is mastermind behind all major designs at Apple has been awarded knighthood in a new year honour list.

Jonathan is born in February 1967 and studied in the UK before moving to America to pursue design work. He joined Apple in 1992 and since then has been contributing in Apple’s success.

Mr Ive added: “I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making.

“I discovered at an early age that all I’ve ever wanted to do is design.”

Apple Looking to Use IGZO Panels for Display in their Products

We heard from our sources that Apple is looking to use IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) flat panels instead of IPS (in-plane switching) panels in their forthcoming products lineup such as iPad 3.

DigiTimes reports: “Starting with the new iPads, Apple will utilize IGZO panels from Sharp in order to upgrade the display resolution of the new tablets to full HD level, the sources indicated”.

Similar claims emerged earlier that Sharp and Apple are working together to bring IGZO panels technology to achieve 330dpi enough to produce HD quality display. According to sources Sharp is making changes in it’s production to make small IGZO panels which will be used in smartphones and tablets together with large panels. Most suppliers in Taiwan can make flat panels but it’s the demand and supply which would be a real concern once the production will start.

Apple Patent to Unlock iPhone/iPad via Face Recognition

Apple Face Recognition Patent

Reports are emerging from different sources about Apple patent to unlock iPad or iOS devices via Face Recognition. Wall Street Journal  was rumoured before original iPad was out that Apple is working on a face recognition enabled tablet.

Idea behind Face Recognition is that device can be used by multiple users and can be customised to show different settings to different users like wallpaper. Face recognition introduced by Google in their Galaxy Nexus phone has an unlock feature by face detection but reported to be easily fooled by a photograph.

Two New Versions of iPad are Rumored to be Unveiled in January

DigiTimes reports today that Apple will be launching two new versions of iPad in January next year. An entry level version will compete against cheaper tablets out there like Amazon Kindle Fire and the high end model which will replace the existing iPad2.

Instead of the previously-rumored 7.85-inch, the upcoming iPad models will still feature 9.7-inch screens but come with QXGA resolution (1,536×2,048 pixels), the sources indicated. Dual-LED light bars are designed for the new iPads to strengthen the brightness of the panels, the sources added.

Apple Historical Material Collection in Stanford Archives

In 1997 when Steve Jobs returned to Apple, officials contacted Stanford University and offered companies collection to the school’s Silicon Valley Archives. This collection at Stanford includes documents, books, software, videotapes and marketing materials.

“Through this one collection you can trace out the evolution of the personal computer,” said Stanford historian Leslie Berlin. “These sorts of documents are as close as you get to the unmediated story of what really happened.”

In an interview recorded in 1980, Wozniak says,

“I remember driving down Highway 85,We’re on the freeway, and Steve mentions, ‘I’ve got a name: Apple Computer.’ We kept thinking of other alternatives to that name, and we couldn’t think of anything better.”

Foxconn Likely to get Assembly Contract for Apple TV Set

DigiTimes published some more detail about Apple TV Set. FoxConn which currently supplies iOS devices to Apple is likely to get assembly order for Apple TV set as well.

Following sources’ claims that Samsung Electronics and Sharp will manufacture chips and displays, respectively, for the so-called Apple “iTV,” others have suggested that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) and Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) have the potential to win orders for Apple’s smart TV.

Apple is expected to finalise hardware standards by the end of second quarter next year and then Apple will place orders for customised chips and other components to it’s contract manufacturer. Apple TV is expected to roll out by the end of 2012, sources said.

Record Number of Activations for iOS and Android over Christmas Time

Analytic firm Flurry tracks 1.5 million iOS and Android activations in the first twenty days of December but activations on December 25 alone rocketed the chart and topped 6.8 million which is 353% more than the rest of the month. In 2010 the company reported 2.8 million device activations which makes this year the biggest winner.

iPhone 4S Set for January Launch in China after Necessary Certification

iPhone 4S received two certifications in China. One from China Compulsory Certification and second from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. Apple now met all requirements to release iPhone 4S in China and it is expected to hit stores in January time next year.
