Apple HDTV iTV could Launch near the Middle of this Year

Apple TV Mockup

Analyst Peter Misek of Jefferies & Company says that Apple HDTV “iTV” could launch near the middle of this year with a suggested price tag of $1,499 and a 42-inch display. Apple TV will run iOS, same operating system which runs on iPhone and iPad, along with Siri the artificial Intelligence assistant.

Misek also notes that the use of Siri will remove the use of traditional remote and will allow users to use their voice to control the TV. Users will be able to surf the web thought Siri or chat with their friends.

Biggest hurdle in launching Apple TV is the shortage of display panels and getting deals done with wireless TV content providers. As Apple is moving along with all this, hopefully we see a final product some time later this year.

Foxconn Likely to get Assembly Contract for Apple TV Set

DigiTimes published some more detail about Apple TV Set. FoxConn which currently supplies iOS devices to Apple is likely to get assembly order for Apple TV set as well.

Following sources’ claims that Samsung Electronics and Sharp will manufacture chips and displays, respectively, for the so-called Apple “iTV,” others have suggested that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) and Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) have the potential to win orders for Apple’s smart TV.

Apple is expected to finalise hardware standards by the end of second quarter next year and then Apple will place orders for customised chips and other components to it’s contract manufacturer. Apple TV is expected to roll out by the end of 2012, sources said.
